We are recognized as The Commonwealth’s Official Transportation Museum by the General Assembly and house a great collection of steam, diesel, and electric locomotives. Family-friendly and chock-full of interactive exhibits and artifacts, VMT proudly provides a unique and exciting museum experience for all. At VMT, we seek to highlight our Nation’s transportation history by providing a unique, educational, and fascinating museum experience that appeals to each member of every family. Through exciting, interactive exhibits and artifacts, we take our patrons back in time and bring history to life. Our museum offers both historical and cultural context that allows us to enlighten and educate visitors in-depth about the various concepts that have been so pivotal in shaping transportation over time within the Commonwealth and beyond. The area also holds a 1941 Piper J3 that’s impossible to miss! 0-Gauge Model Railroad 1941 J3 Piper Cub ’s viewable outside railyard is a truly unique experience for visitors. What sets the outside railyard apart is the opportunity to get an up-close look at these amazing machines. Visitors can climb aboard and explore the various trains, experiencing a taste of rail travel firsthand.
